The first meet of the season was extremely hot; so hot that they almost canceled it. But we ran modified/shortened races in the brutal heat and humidity.
Pensive. Getting mentally prepared, I like to say.
Charlotte finished second. She fought her way up from the middle of the pack (after getting tripped at the beginning) to first and then was passed by Miss Speedy in the blue shirt with a killer sprint!
A fifth grader, Berkley has graduated up to racing a full mile with 5-6 graders! (Although it was shortened to about 1500 M this day.) She did fantastically! She held a steady pace and sprinted early at the end to nab 11th place! I was so proud of her effort! Especially after a mean soccer coach (who was holding practice on the back field) grabbed Berkley in the middle of the run and made her stop because he was angry we were running through his practice. What a jerk!
Great finish!
(Lutheran High decided to give Berkley a medal for keeping a Christian attitude and not giving up even though that soccer coach interfered with her race.)
